Play Until Want to Vomit..

Soccer today at NUS was great fun. About 13 of us came down. It was Puvan's birthday too and he finally managed to get on the scoresheet despite having 52 shots on goal when KK sprained his toe. It was end to end action with Maran forgetting to bring his scoring shoes but that still did not stop him from hitting a sweet volley straight at a netballer on the opposite court. Goal of the day belonged to SK who seized upon a looping clearing header from Prak, bicycle kicked it off the corner of the cross-bar. For those who were lucky enough to be there, I guess it was one of those moments where we'll talk about again and again.

After soccer Riz started breathing heavily and wanted to vomit. He still managed to join us for dinner at Blue Diamond (no relation to Purple or Pink Diamond). We all headed home after that.

Special mention to the following:
  1. KK and SK for securing job contracts. I guess they will be bringing in the dough soon.

  2. Puvan, Happy Birthday.

  3. Philbert, we all know why. More mentions when the time is right.

Mib Lookalikes Part 2!!! Special mention has to go to Harish who spotted this. Keep them coming in guys..

Updates..

1. Harvey, Riz, Prak, PP and Puvan went to watch Narnia 2 today. Thoroughly enjoyable movie I would say. Especially if you enjoyed the first one. If you did not, then you might be lost with the plot, so I suggest you go read up or watch the first movie if you wanna catch this. Action was good, acting was decent and the CGI was eye-catching. Plot was also intriguing enough and you could not guess what was going to happen next, though you could see the ending coming some distance away. Best action of the day was when the seat next to riz was occupied by a girl in a mini-skirt. Her BF didn't mind sharing her with Riz I guess.

Movie Rating: 3.5/5 (worth a watch in cinema on $6 ticket)

2. Friday soccer on 30th May is ON at 4pm at NUS. Please do come.

3. There is a street soccer tournament coming up on 28/29th May at the street soccer court near my house. Its called the Lee Boon Yang Cup. More details to follow but I think we should send a team. At least my house is nearby so we got place to rest or play PS3 if all else fails.

4. Trip to Redang looks like it's taking shape. Dates we are looking at is 11-14 July so start making plans. Harish has done some pretty good homework but if the budget is too high, then maybe Tioman could be a good alternative. I dono about you guys, but I'm looking for a nice beach to play some games at, chill out, cheap food, lots of rest n relax, some card games and alcohol-induced fun. So how about it guys? Make some sacrifices because this could be the last time we go on a trip like this. Most of us are starting work soon and who knows, even marriages could be on the cards? So let's do this. One last time.

5. Anthony Player profile will be up soon.

6. Any other player lookalikes? Please keep them coming.

7. Sat I need the fotos from the wedding.

Congrats Congrats Congrats!

  1. First up, on behalf of MiB, a big hearty congratualtions to Sat's sister, Devi, on her marriage yesterday. There was no one more sad than rizvi, but he made up for it by taking home 18 ladoos. Most of MiB were there to support the stressed-out brother of the bride, who looked the part and did his family proud. His Superman boxers with a big S covering his little brother made an apperance in the translucent white clothes he was wearing, but thankfully for him, the situation was arrested and no one found out that Satheeish is actually Clarke Kent. Photos from the big night will be up soon. Sat and Harish please pass them to me ASAP.

  2. I don't think enough has been made of this, but according to the latest poll, Rizvi and Prak are MiB's 2 biggest firestarters. They can argue about it till the cows come home (use the board) but the poll does NOT lie!

  3. Plans are underway for MiB's short holiday. Possible venues are Tioman, Redang and the like. Budget will be about $300 - 500. Duration will be maximum 4d/3n and this trip will occur during the middle 3 weeks of July so please mark your calendars. For those who don't have such state of the art things, it will be either the week starting 7th, 14th or 21st July. Harish and Harvey are working on it and will come out with the full plans soon.

  4. For those who need to buy stuff from Peninsula, this Wednesday I am going down about 2pm. You are welcome to join me if you are free.

  5. Soccer is ON this Friday 4pm at NUS. Please come and if you can't please leave a note on the tag board.

  6. Starting from this post, I will be on the lookout for MiB Lookalikes! If you have seen someone or something that looks like one of us, immediately contact me and I will put it up here. For starters we have....

RIZVI??? OR Chef from South Park????

Indiana Jones 4 Review!

Harvey, Riz, Prak, Munshi, Maran and Faizal met up today on the opening day of the hugely-anticipated Indy 4. We got great seats at Orchard Cineleisure and were all set to go with large popcorn, long hotdogs and some fried chicken.

Now to the review. Well, if you're an Indy fan like me, you'll come out a little disappointed. Indy 4 is not a bad movie, it's just that it's probably the worst of the 4 so far. There has always been some form of magic when it comes to that Hat and whip and though in some parts the movie is downright exciting, somehow you feel that they should leave it as it is, enough of Indy for now.

Harrison Ford is good as usual but his supporting cast does let him down a little. There was too little oomph from the villain (I think the giant ants were the scariest thing in the show) and his sidekicks. But let's face it, this movie is a Summer blockbuster and if you leave your brain at the door and take it as one giant roller-coaster ride, you could be in for a very good time. Stock up on the popcorn and drinks, don't think too much about the plot and I think it's worth a watch in the cinema, but on weekday $6.

So for that, the movie gets 3 out of 5. Go read up on the Mayan civilization in South America before you watch the show. You might enjoy it better that way.

The FINAL word from Moscow.

(Disclaimer: The author would like to remind all members that he hates Manchester United and Chelsea equally. I have just hated Manu longer.)

Winners of the 2008 Champions League Final: Manchester United (England)

As much as it hurts to think about it, that will be all that will be remembered of this final 50 years down the road. Who will remember Drogba and Lampard being so desperately unlucky by hitting the post and bar respectively (though ardent Manu fans will remember Jancker hitting the post with Schmeichel stranded in 1999), who will remember that Manu could well and truly have put the game to bed by the 40th Min after missing 2 or 3 glorious chances, who will remember that Drogba got himself sent off for a totally unnecessary flick of his fingers (though now Rooney and Benitez'z comments make sense don't they?).

I enjoyed the game. I didn't think it was dull or uneventful. Two teams, now don't piss me off by saying they were English when only 8 of 22 players were from Eng-er-land, going for it, end to end stuff, ferocious tackles, divine interceptions and then at the end of the day, the script written in the stars prevailed to hand Manu the Cup. How John Terry will get over that slip I really do not know. I hate Chelsea, but I genuinely felt sorry for the guy. If he had passed the ball into the net, I dont think any Manu fan would have begrudged him the victory. Alas, it was not meant to be.

The game was played at frenetic pace and credit to the players for making it possible. Add to that the incessant rain, and you just had the feeling that the footballing gods were having a real battle of destinies up there, Chelsea with Lampard's mum passing and Manu with the Busby Babes. At the end of the day, 3 inches is all that separated the teams, and I can assure you that after yesterday, John Terry will check his studs before a game over, and over, and over, and over again.

Now one fact that disturbs me is how everyone, yes everyone including the knowledgable English commentators like Andy Gray and Martin Tyler are so ignorant of the fact that "Chelsea are made up of just a rich Russian Billionaire". Let me give you some cold, hard facts:

Starting 11 (Chelsea):

  • Cech (7mil)
  • Essien (24mil)
  • Terry (Home grown (HG))
  • Carvalho (17mil)
  • Cole (16mil)
  • J.Cole (7mil)
  • Ballack (Free)
  • Makelele (17mil)
  • Lampard (11mil)
  • Malouda (15mil)
  • Drogba (24mil)
  • Sub: Kalou (11mil)
  • Sub: Anelka (15mil)
  • Sub: Belletti (3mil)

Total Cost: 167 Million Pounds

Starting 11 (ManU)

  • Van Der Sar (2mil)
  • Brown (HG)
  • Ferdinand (30mil)
  • Vidic (7mil)
  • Evra (6mil)
  • Hargreaves (17mil)
  • Carrick (18mil)
  • Scholes (HG)
  • Ronaldo (12mil)
  • Tevez (20mil)
  • Rooney (30mil)
  • Sub: Nani (17mil)
  • Sub: Anderson (18mil)
  • Sub: Giggs (HG)

Total Cost: 177 Million Pounds

So you tell me, which team was more expensively assembled? And that, contrary to my dear friend Satheeish's point, is what wins you trophies. Money. They did not have the BEST squad, Barcelona, Real Madrid, AC Milan will argue that with you, but at the end of the day, their squad was the most expensively put together by Alex Ferguson.

So in closing, I want to congratulate ManU fans for an amazing night. Enjoy the moment and celebrate like no one's looking. I want to console Chelsea fan(s), I guess it was just not meant to be. My heart goes out to Terry.

And at the end of the day, as much as skill and desire are factors needed to win, above all you need luck and money. If it's meant to be, it's meant to be..

Roll on EURO 2008..
