Updates..

  1. MiB met up on Tuesday at Tampines SAFRA to have a kickabout with Vana's colleagues. It was good fun but we didn't really stretch ourselves as much as we wanted to. We then went to Tampines mall to have KFC, no sorry BK, no sorry McDonalds.

  2. There will be no soccer this Friday. With a few of us already unable to come, and more working, there's no point we risk injury ahead of Sunday's tournament. So take a good rest, don't club too hard, and definitely no clubbing on Saturday night.

  3. Tournament on Sunday at Fico Sports Hub. All further details to be provided by Satheeish soon.

  4. Bryna is back in Singapore so please bear with me with the regularity of the updates on the blog. I'll try to do what I can when I can..

  5. And finally a video that might bring a smile to your face, Prak and Riz getting into a WWF match as Harvey and Harry play PS3. Riz was hungry, and Prak wanted to play PS3. See the fun that ensued..

We ROCK at ROCK BAND!!

After Friday soccer at NUS last week, MiB adjourned to Al-Azhar for dinner. Am-Ameen is really reeling in Azhar's shadow as it was packed to the rafters, and it was actually quite sad to see the Ameen crowd that day. Food at Azhar was not too bad, but please note, try the Olive Juice with sour plums at your own risk.

After that the guys headed over to KK's place to play Rock Band. It's basically an extension of Guitar Hero and includes a mike to test your vocal skills and drum set to test your hand-leg-eye coordination. Needless to say MiB had a blast and stayed up till 1am at our jamming session. Notable mentions has to go out to KK who was simply one class above us all when it came to the instruments, MRJ for getting 100% on the vocals for Radiohead's Creep, Maran for looking like Bambi on ice on the drums, Prak for being shy, PP for his mat-like guitar skills, Sat for his ok guitar skills, bad drum skills, and ear-aching vocals. And finally for Harvey, who just about woke up the dogs in Toh Tuck and caused KK's brother to close his ears despite having headphones on. All pictures are here and they will explain everything..

All pictures courtesy of PP. Thanks dei. Riz send me your video again.

Updates..

Ok guys lots of emo stories flying around. I guess it's because after very long, MiB is actually taking part in a competition again. I don't expect to see any drastic changes in fitness in our members in the space of 10 days, but it's always good to go exercise, for your teammates, your team, yourself and of course, your heart. To be honest, only a handful of our members are actually football-fit, so there's a lot of work to be done..

Here's the time-table for MiB as we head into the tournament next week:

  1. 25th July Friday: Soccer at NUS 5pm. I understand the frustration of those working, but the majority are comfortable with Friday, and we cant play this Sunday in any case.
  2. 27th July Sunday: Match at Fuhua Secondary School at 9am. Team list with Sat. Try to be at the pitch at least 30 mins before kick off. Please try.
  3. 27th July Sunday: Lunch at Satheeish's place.
  4. 29th July Tuesday: Vana's colleagues have booked Tampines SAFRA from 7pm to 9pm. I suggest we go down and kick about. Can share the costs no problem. I'll be there.
  5. 3rd August Sunday: Day of the tournament. $1000 first prize.

Team 1: PP, Prak, Zal, SK, Harry, Sat, Harvey

Team 2: Kevin, Riz, Rooban, Puvan, Vana, Maran, Harish

Details for the tournament will be given out by Sat soon. I will be heading to Peninsula on Monday 28th July in the evening because Prak needs to buy shoes. If you need to replenish your stuff, whether its shoes, socks, MiB jersey, shorts or whatever, this is a good time to go, or let me know what you are missing and I can help you buy. By the way, please pay SK the money for the tournament.

So yes guys, the next 10 days are crucial. No point in me mothering you into running and what not, come Sunday I will see you at the court.

And now to leave you with some memories of what winning a tournament felt like, when everyone puts in their heart and soul.. Enjoy.=)

Wham Bam its Batam! The Boys Are Back..

What a trip! It was really a turbo-charged super fun weekend at Batam and each of us had so much fun that we will probably talk about it all our lives. So many memories to take back and to those who did not come, I am sorry but you just missed something special. Sorry if we keep talking about the trip but it was really a typical MiB non-stop laugh fest and everyone was game enough to push all sorts of boundaries!

Sarra Farra, MGR, falling dustbins, 3am rugby tackles along the corridor, "swimming", mutiara, KFC, A&W, Jim Beam, Dancing, heart to heart talks, Innova JC, paddle pop, beach volleyball, beach soccer, seafood, pizza hut, polo t shirts.. Wow.. And to think that's not even HALF the story!

I have uploaded some photos here to let you guys see what we were up to this weekend. I have uploaded all the shots from the weekend in a separate link (www.webshots.com) User Name is mibfc, ask me for the password. Just to give you a heads up, this is not even 1/3 of the photos we took there so lots more to see! Enjoy!

MiB Movie Review: The Dark Knight

This is probably the easiest movie review ever done. Rating: 5 out of 5. MUST watch if not you're not a guy. Great action, superb acting, the best magic trick ever seen, and 2.5 hours of non-stop adrenaline rush. You will probably watch the show twice in the cinema, and get the DVD afterwards. Leave your gf at home if you have to, you CANNOT miss this movie.

Philbert's Proposal! (Photographs)

The "pre-proposal" meeting at Harry's with Ian, Zal, Prak, Riz and Harvey.

MiB looking very focussed on the job at hand. Either that or the alcohol was not there yet.

Harvey was obviously very happy for Bert. Stupid flash on Rizvi's camera..

Harvey gets the ball rolling with just Coke.

Prak was getting happy.

Maran decided to defend a free kick in the club.

After the big proposal!

Congratulations!!!!

  1. First and foremost to Rizvi and Navik (KK) for having completed their Engineering Degrees at NUS. 4 years of "hard work", staring at NUS girls, eating cheap food, playing hardcore football, and all those laughs and memories. Well done guys! All the best for your futures.

  2. Second and in no part lesser, to Philbert and Uma. Our man summoned up his balls and more to pop the big question and Uma said YES! All videos and photos from the big night will be up soon, hopefully we get them faster than Sat's sister's wedding photos (thanks Sat and Harish for that by the way, I'm still waiting). But congratulations to the happy couple, all the best in planning for your wedding. On behalf of MiB, we wish you all the happiness and Bert, don't screw this up now.

Football On when???

Ok guys this is a serious enough topic to warrant a post so that's why I'm doing it. K it has been brought up that football on Fridays is becoming a little bit difficult for our agents as they now have to deal with work commitments too. I can understand that and that's why it is important to vote and decide what day should be best.

Ok some arguments.. I still prefer Friday soccer. For selfish reasons it is the only day that I do not have some form of NUS, Combined Uni, Club training that I can delegate to MiB. Let's face it guys, for many of you guys, our weekly kickabout is the only exercise you get, whereas I really enjoy playing with you all and hence try to make things happen. I do the planning too so for the past few weeks it has been Friday.

Fri 5pm:

Pros: 1. We can stay out late because the weekend is coming.
2. There is no football on tv.
3. We can even start later so everyone can come after work. If we even start at say
630pm, but be disciplined and end at 8pm, I think that can work. This requires some
effort to be punctual. This is how most working adults do it.

Cons: 1. Too many people cannot make it due to work commitments.
2. NUS is not an accessible place for all.

Sat 9am (Vana's suggestion)

Pros: 1. Everyone should more or less be there.
2. No clash.

Cons: 1. It is too early. Some of us will like to sleep in on weekends due to our work
commitments.
2. Playing in the morning sun is not easy mind you.
3. If we play soccer till say 12pm, then eat, then hang out, you are talking burning half to
a whole Saturday with MiB. Family? Gf? Other plans?

Sat 4pm (Rooban's suggestion)

Pros: 1. No work so everyone should be there.
2. You can sleep late on Saturday and still come for soccer so no excuse.
3. We can hang out after that because the next day is Sunday.

Cons: 1. When the EPL season starts, there will be early kickoffs at say 745pm then how? Even
if the games kick off at 10pm, that will mean everyone splitting by 9pm. So it's soccer,
a couple of drinks then head off from there.
2. For those of us who are involved in semi-professional football (Harvey for now, maybe
Chan and Dinesh in the future), we will have matches on Saturday evening.
3. If we play on Saturday evenings, that will rule out matches on Sunday as football 2 days
in a row is impossible for most of us.
4. Saturday evening is a sucker for gfs and outside friends to ask for our time. How will we
manage that?

Sunday 9am (alternative)

Pros: Look at Saturday morning ones.

Cons: Look at Saturday morning ones. Not to forget people who need to go to church or temple.
Plus there's always a no-good feeling about playing on Sunday because Monday is around
the corner.

Sunday 4pm (alternative 2)

Pros: Look at Saturday 4pm.

Cons: 1. Semi-pro footballers how?
2. Sunday EPL games?
3. Monday is hours away so no late hanging out.

Vote guys so we know... This will kick in from the first weekend of August, ie. 1,2 or 3rd August 2008.

MiB FC Player Profile: Senthil Kumar

8. Senthil Kumar

Position on the Pitch: Goalie, Right Back, Left Back, Wings, Loves to Play Attack; Mr. Versatile
Nicknames: SK, Toa Payoh Theva***h

Player he Tries to Emulate: There have been many Arsenal players but it has to be Robert Pires.

Memorable Quotes: “I was eating fries at McDonald’s dei”
“Hi what are you guys doing here?” (Outside BK at Toa Payoh. Riz, Prak
and Harvey will understand)
“I don’t care! Let him shit and piss here!”
Nothing. Just the look that we saw and Maran ignored at Puvan’s 21st.
Will most likely say: “Can you all pay the MiB fund?”

Will never be caught saying: “Yes ref I fouled him on purpose”

SK, as we so affectionately call him, has to be one of the more interesting members of MiB. Quiet, unassuming and quite the introvert on the surface, our “Mike” from Toa Payoh can be quite the life of the party thanks to his renowned bongol-playing skills and his silky moves on the dancefloor. Who can forget his performance on his 21st birthday party that left the guys jealous and the girls queuing up to get his phone number.

SK was recently elected as the Treasurer for MiB. Now when it comes to money and MiB, it takes a really brave man to take up the responsibility of being the Treasurer. But these qualities are evident in SK and we know he is a trustworthy member of the team and has more than fulfilled his treasury duties so far.

SK is a pretty versatile football player. MiB lifted the 2006 Rotaract Cup trophy in NUS thanks to his brilliant one-handed saves in goal. He really carried the team on his own in some of the matches in that tournament. But he will be the first to admit that he would rather be the one banging in the goals at the other end and SK does not come up short in that department too. When Senthil is on fire, expect extraordinary bicycle kicks and step-overs to become a common sight on the football pitch. He has scored so many goals in the past where the opponents themselves have stood there in admiration.

For field games, SK is our first choice full-back and though he is quite reluctant to play there, he is able to carry out that position brilliantly thanks to his above-average fitness by MiB’s standards, and his never say die attitude. Though he may seem to be relaxed and cool on the surface, he is an extremely passionate sportsman and his enthusiasm has rubbed off on the team and inspired us to some really memorable victories.

SK is an extremely well-grounded person and to the surprise of many people, still pretty traditional. He is the apple of his parents’ eye and as a friend, is extremely assuring, responsible and trustworthy. Though he is not one to openly share with all MiB members about his personal life, the majority of us know enough about him to empathise when things don’t go so well, and celebrate with him when things are on a roll.

Having just armed himself with a degree from NTU, we know that SK will buckle down to the necessities of life and emerge successful in whatever he does. He was one of MiB’s first ever signings from Hybrids when the teams were first formed in SJI, and today, SK has grown to be one of MiB’s cornerstones in defence, attack, and everywhere else.
