Meeting Time: 2.15pm

Team so far: Harvey, Riz, Prak, SK, PP, KK, Maran, Vana, Puvan, Sat. Harish 50-50 with his injury. Kevin might play. I told him to bring a friend if possible, scout for new talent for MiB plus reserves will be much needed. Sat can you ask Bert?

Price: 80 per team.

Attire: Bring BOTH white and yellow tops. Black shorts. Black socks.

Pre-match News: Last game saw us play out a goalless draw against a pretty tough opponent. Let's use that experience and build on it to get some goals this time while maintaining a clean sheet at the back. There were good performances from a couple of us, hope to see that continue. While we also welcome Puvan back into the team, we have missed his long legs and energy in midfield.

MiBFC in hard-fought goalless draw..

MiB FC was today held to a credible 0-0 draw with a team made up of fit manjanns and Arun, a former player of Club De Bishan, who organized the game with us.

The day started off in the worst possible way with the dark clouds opening up and a thunderstorm threatening to rain off the game. But the clouds only delayed the kick off by 20mins and the decent pitch showed little effects of the heavy rain. On hindsight, maybe this was the best thing that could have happened to MiB because if the heat was anything like the day before, maybe the opponents with their fitter players might have run circles around us. But it was not to be and the game kicked off in cool windy conditions.

MiB once again had only 11 men, with our 2 substitutes caught up at work and not able to make it. Add to that the fitness and ability of Chan and Puvan missing from NFL game and work, not to forget Harry and Dinesh who are on their overseas stints, plus Rooban recovering from injury, this was a depleted team. We missed Anan too but ya..=) To make matters even worse, SK was still "sick" having spent the night and early morning at Empire, Harish sprained his ankle during the warm up and PP strained his knee ligaments from a medical check up.

Riz captained the side as he celebrated his 26th birthday. The fans (3 birds and the traffic on the CTE) was ecstatic on hearing he was handed the armband. He was partnered by Prak in the centre, Navin PP at right back, SK at left back and a return to action for MiB for the injured Harvey. Sat, who added even more drama, or should I say comedy, to the afternoon when all the studs from his boot fell off before kick off. So he was practically wearing street soccer shoes on a slippery grass field. Vana joined him in the centre of midfield, while Maran and Navin KK took up the wing slots. Harish partnered the energetic Kevin in attack.

The game started with the opponents trying to show some one touch passing and cross-field balls that rarely troubled Riz and Prak, who were solid for the whole game. PP was struggling a little on the right but that was because the opponents best player was on the left wing and he almost scored when his cross-shot deceived Harvey and bounced off the bar to safety. MiB slowly started to grow into the game with Vana at the heart of most of our good moves. We won some free kicks that were punted into the box but despite causing some scares, the ball never broke for us and the opponents were pretty comfortable. To make matters worse, they were taking the term rolling-sub too literally, with fresh players brought in every 10 minutes to make our tiring legs feel even heavier. With the introduction of Arun on the right flank, it was up to KK to sacrifice most of his attacking thrust to play a more defensive role, one which he fulfilled to great effect and nullified any threat that might have come down that side.

MiB had their best chance when the ball broke for Kevin after a defensive mix up, but he dragged his shot wide. To his credit he never stopped running for the cause and epitomised the spirit showed by the entire team. Controversial moment of the match came when the opponents left winger threatened to break through but PP slid and took him out completely, only to turn to the ref and smile and say "I never touched him Ref." Half time 0-0.

Second half carried out in very much the same vein as the first as MiB began to tire and lose the ball carelessly as the opponents launched wave after wave of attack, but to no avail as the midfield and defence held firm. We managed to launch some counter attacks of our own too as we exploited some of the gaps left behind by the opponents as they searched for an opening goal. From 2 free kicks, Vana and SK tested the keeper who did well to save and a couple of dangerous corners might have yielded a little bit more had the ball bounced more kindly for us. But truth be told we were a little fortunate to hold on too, with SK making a careless mistake of dribbling in the penalty box only to be robbed by the strikers. With a 2 on 1 situation with Harvey, they chose to pass and score, only to be ruled clearly offside. Harvey too had a rush of blood to the head when he did well to sweep up a through ball, only to kick it straight to the opponents who shot, but Riz played a captain's innings and swept away the ball from danger.

As the final whistle drew nearer, PP felt it was time for his yellow card so he went in hard on the opponents left winger, who left his brain at home and started to push PP. He obviously did not know PP was in the SCDF IP-MAN fighting unit and this led to yellow cards for both players. The opponents had a couple of long-range efforts soon after that came close, but nothing really that much to trouble Harvey.

So the game ended goalless with gallant performances from everyone in MiB, who ran even when they were tired or injured or lacking friction on their shoes. Vana looked bright and his new exercise regime signals exciting times for MiB if he keeps it up. And if we can welcome some of our players who were missing today, I guess it only can get better for us.

Quote of the game: "Eh last time you guys were really good ah, but nowadays you all play more like Everton" - Referee to Prak, with a gleaming Riz wearing the No 5 jersey smiling in the background.

Match on Sunday 26th April 2009

Venue: Balestier ITE (www.gothere.sg If you can't find the place)

Meeting Time: 2.15pm

Team so far: Harvey, Riz, Prak, SK, PP, KK, Maran, Vana, Harish, Sat. (Chan maybe you can play 1 half for us?) That's only 10 players so far. I will ask Kevin and Sat will try to find someone too. Bert so far no sound anyone knows where he is? Puvan working. Rooban will be manager for the day.

Price: 110 per team. (SK are we using anything from the fund?)

Attire: Bring BOTH white and yellow tops. Black shorts. Black socks.

Pre-match News: Ok guys a bit of bad news first. The team we are playing is NOT Sara's team. I arranged the game with Arun, who plays for them, but he was arranging this game for us against another team that he plays for. I just found out. Sorry about that. From the sound of it this team is pretty strong and I expect their fitness on average to be about SK's standard so go figure. I know some of you might be disappointed that it is not a chance to kick some people, but nonetheless, take this game seriously, almost like a semi final, in preparation for the game against Sara's team, a match which I am trying to arrange with Arun too. Maybe it is also for the best because we will be missing the likes of Chan and Puvan for the game so we are slightly below strength.

So hope to see you guys there on time, does not matter who the opponents are, we go there and have fun.
