Will we have a new Champion?

The Time Has Come..

The time has come for a group of brothers to meet, explore the boundaries of their nation, share their life stories with each other, encourage, build each other up, motivate, provide sound fellowship, eat healthy food, take a good rest and build bonds of brotherhood..

But that time time CAN WAIT afterrrrrrrrrrr.......

Drunken revelry, humiliation, rugby tackles, one hand push ups, kuppeh dancing, KFC indulging, donut dipping, happy ending(s), guest appearances by Jonnie, Jim, Jack and maybe even Robert at MiB's 2nd Trip to Batam!!!!!!!!!!!

With the coming long weekend for National Day (9th is a Sunday so off till 10th), it is the perfect time to get away. We plan to leave on Friday evening and return on Sunday evening. That way you do not need to take leave, yes 0 days of leave needed, plus you can come back on Sunday, rest on Monday and even spend time with your girlfriend and family and even your dogs.

Yes boys, it's a time to switch off and totally relax and we indulge ourselves in a trip where memories will be made!

Here are the details:

Day 1(Friday):

ETD: 7pm (This is open to ammendment. Please read after the itinerary)
ETA Batam: 8pm

Dinner: KFC + Pizza at Ferry Terminal.. (Riz will tapao 50 donuts to last him for day 2)

ETA Purajaya Resort: 10pm (Settle down, let's go walk walk and have a drink etc..)

Day 2 (Saturday)

9am: Breakfast (Whack so we skip lunch)

10am: Start beach plans

3pm: End beach plans

4pm: Head for massage. (good clean one. riz will go er.. elsewhere)

6pm - 7pm: Shopping

730pm: Seafood dinner

10pm: Reach hotel. Time for 1-hand push ups and rugby tackles.

Day 3 (Sunday)

9am: Try to wake up

10am: Wake up

12pm: Check out

1pm: Reach ferry terminal (Shopping + KFC + Pizza hut. Riz will buy 50 donuts to last him for ferry home)

ETD: 6pm
ETA Singapore: 730pm (Home sweet home)

Cost:
$153 (inclusive of 2 nights stay at Purajaya Beach Resort, breakfasts everyday, transport to and fro Batam, transport to and fro ferry terminal at Batam, 1 free massage, and taxes). This is a super good deal. We paid $151 the last time without a free massage.

Estimated to cost about $5-10 per meal, and transport in Batam about $30 total. The rest is for your shopping (leather goods, polo ralph lauren shirts, perfumes etc..), your "vitamin juice" and for "aerobics" Rizvi-style!)

So I can say $300 will cover everything and ensure you have a time to remember!!!!!!!!!!!!

Note:
If you want a trip where you can sight-see and travel, then this trip is not for you. If you want to totally leave your brain in Singapore, eat 6 pieces of KFC (they cost $1 a piece), eat 30 donuts with jam (they are half the price) and see your friends dancing with their t shirts on their heads, then this IS FOR YOUUUUUUUUUU!!!

So please take your time to think and decide if you want to go. Check with your girlfriend, mother, father, uncle, aunty, dog, boss and civil defence if necessary.

We will be going down to book the tickets and confirm next Wednesday 22nd July 2009 at 7pm at Chinatown. Mark it down in your calendars and be there!

As mentioned earlier, we plan to leave on Friday evening so we don't have to escape work. I am thinking since it's National Day weekend, by Friday 4pm everywhere will be in celebration mood and so no point taking leave. Riz and Prak however want to go there on Friday morning itself. Which is not a bad idea cos we start to pay for the hotel from 12pm on Friday. So might as well utilize maximum. So the choice is entirely yours and you don't have to confirm this until the day of your departure cos the ferries go there every one hour so it's own time own target. But we should consolidate maybe 2 parties (horny early birds, and evening group) so we can tell the resort to come pick us up.

So please decide and SMS me by Sunday 19th July 2359Hrs if you want to go. Thank you.

A game 13 years in the making.. MiB's class shines through in the end..

The last time MiB FC tried to play Club De Bishan Football Club (CDB), we were short of players, wearing all sorts of jerseys, and had to borrow players to make it a game. After waiting almost 5 years for the day, MiB played their closest adversaries again on a hot Saturday afternoon at Clementi Woods Secondary.

I say closest adversaries but it's interesting because both teams have so many things in common, roots from SJI, CJC, ACJC, NUS, NTU, goalkeepers dating chinese girls, but yet, we've existed in separate worlds, only for these worlds to collide today. The field was pretty good, freshly cut, but a bit sandy and bouncy in the centre. Hoping to build on the good warm up we had in the last game, MiB was already kicking around 15 minutes before kick off. The last time that happened, Sat thought Riz was Tamil.

13 players were ready at kick off, 14 if you include Player X. SK and Chan were scheduled to come after work so 5 reserves added to the professional look of MiB, donning our new away White Adidas kits for the first time.

Harvey lined up in goal behind the versatile Shyam at left back. Sat and Riz started in defence while Harish was at right back. Puvan and Farhan anchored the midfield while Navin KK and Vana were on the wings. Maran partnered Faizal in attack. Yes Faizal, MiB's long absent but never forgotten number 9, making a swansong appearance before jetting off for Europe. Prak, Anan and Player X were on the bench.

After a Champions League style intro, the game started at a frenetic pace and CDB could have scored inside 5 minutes. A through ball down the left was squared for the rushing striker. Harvey tried to salvage the situation by rushing out and his fingertips caused the ball to spill on the goal line, only for Shyam to somewhat clear, and then Harvey hacked it away. A close shave!

MiB struggled to perform with CDB looking hungrier and more determined to put MiB in their shadow. They continued to threaten and some careless passing from MiB's midfield only led them to gain in confidence. They gained a couple of corners and forced Harvey into 2 saves before MiB even strung their first attack together.

But as the game settled down, Navin KK started to find some space on the left and get some dangerous crosses in. We won a few corners that barely threatened. A tactical switch saw Vana switch with Puvan to the centre of midfield, lending some stability to MiB's game. Off a clever free kick, Vana laid the ball off to Puvan when everyone was expecting a shot. Puvan delivered a delicious ball across the face of goal that the effervescent Zal connected with. To MiB's despair a CDB defender put his body on the line and deflected it away.

Chan came on in the 25th minute and it immediately paid off. A corner was floated in that the CDB's defence made a hash off, and true to script, Faizal was there to smash in his goal. 1-0! Before the goal, MiB were struggling to settle, owing to their carelessness in front of goal, where Anan missed a contender for miss of a lifetime. But the goal settled the nerves and after that we started to play our football. Chandra again broke through around the 30th minute, but dallied in front of goal and saw his shot cleared. Anan was starting to link up with Zal and one combination saw Zal's volley brilliantly saved by CDB's keeper.

Just as MiB thought they had done enough to see out the game till half time, a harmless throw in saw the ball ricochet to CDB's dangerous striker who toepoked the ball past Harvey leaving him no chance. 1-1 and it was game on again. MiB looked deflated and the half time whistle came.

Some changes were made at half time and generally it was a case of using just a little more time with the ball instead of rushing it that paid dividends in the second half. By now SK was back at left back.

MiB started the second half strongly but you could see that CDB felt that they believed we were there for the taking. About the 60th minute mark, their striker again broke through. His shot was saved at point blank by Harvey and MiB scrambled it away. The ball reached the frontline where Chan slid past 3 defenders before slotting the ball home. 2-1 when it could have been 1-2 10 seconds earlier!

At this point CDB started to throw avalanches into the MiB defence but Sat was having a determined afternoon, making sure nothing was going past him. Shyam also came in for Harish after he suffered a knock and had a stable game at right back. It is not his best position but MiB is missing 2 natural defenders (Navin PP and Dinesh), and the sooner they return, the better for Shyam. But he did well and never complained.

Puvan and Vana were also winning everything in midfield and KK was running tirelessly down the wings, till he stretched his hamstring and had to be taken off. Anan and Maran took turns to lead the attack in the second half while Prak came in for intermittent spells with Riz. But back to the game and the opponents looked dangerous when they attacked, but Harvey's experience and time-wasting was draining them out slowly. MiB continued to launch attacks of our own but could not get the killer third goal.

A few dangerous free kicks at the edge of the box saw CDB try and grab an equalizer, but MiB defended stoutly to protect our lead. About the 80th minute mark, Player X made his long-awaited comeback and looked lively in a new position for him, striker. It was then MiB put together the move of the game with the strikers linking up and putting Chan through on the left. He squared the ball for Player X who still had a lot to do, but he finished like a seasoned professional, much to the delight of MiB. 3-1. Game set match.

The opponents then threw everything at MiB, who despite some scares, especially as Sat called Riz a female private genitalia in Hokkien, hung on to claim a precious and oh so sweet victory. It was not easy playing in the 3pm desert-heat and later thunderstorm, but we pulled through and that's all that mattered in the end.

For admin purposes, we managed to lose a ball today. That's disappointing so please take note and make sure we try to keep a look out of our belongings every time we play.

Adios Faizal, have a blast in Europe and thank you for coming down today. Please share your photos with us and let us know when you're back. The number 9 is waiting for you. (It costs $70 by the way.=) )

Also thanks to Anan for organizing the game and for Player X for his contribution today.

A sweet victory guys. Savour it. We're doing well at the moment but let's keep it going and spur each other on.

Match on Saturday 11th July 2009 at 3pm

Venue: Clementi Woods Secondary School (We have played here before. Don't know if you guys can remember. It used to be called something else. Small tight field, grass a bit long, bumpy.. We beat a team with an ang moh keeper 3-2 here. Ring any bells? For going there, from Clementi MRT can take 189. It's near the West Coast Market that we ate at the last time.)

Meeting Time: 2.15pm

Team so far: Harvey, Riz, Prak, Maran, Shyam, Farhan, Sat, SK, Vana, Puvan, Anan, KK. Chan might be a little late. Could anyone contact Zal? Bert how?

Price: $80 per team

Attire: Bring your new jersey set. Both tops please. We should be wearing white but we will see on the day so bring both. For those that don't have your kit yet, just bring your stuff I will bring your jerseys for you.

Pre-match News: We saw from the last match how crucial a good warm up can be. Not to forget this will be a derby clash (from SJI, ACJC, NUS etc..) with a lot of old scores to settle. If we come slack, the opponents are going to gain confidence from that and the result might hit us in the face. I know a lot of you guys have been waiting forever for this match so no excuses not to be punctual, mentally and physically ready. Let's keep our good run going from the last game. At the end of the day it's just another friendly, but when the first whistle goes, trust me it won't feel like it. So see you boys sharp and early.

Front Row: Sat, Harish, Chan, Philbert, Navin KK, Harvey, Harry

Not in Photo: Dinesh, Anan, Navin PP, Faizal, Rooban, Vana, SK (toilet)

Puvan and Prak look like they are taking a class photo. Maran is posing like Sam Anderson. The front row has some team spirit thing going on but Sat, Bert and Harry are too cool for that. The back row seems like they don't really like each other.

So next year Champions League How??

Now that Singtel has won the rights to screw the pub.. oops I mean to broadcast Champions League matches, I decided to check it out and find out how much it will cost for us the consumer to watch the games next year. Please click http://www.singtelfootballfrenzy.com/ for more details, but for those who lack time and effort, here is the break-down of the costs (Sat's conspiracy theory not included):

Plan 1: ON PROMOTION NOW (The tri-ticket)

Cost: $15.90 per month. (But 2 months free if you sign up now. 4 months free if you take mioHome which means getting the internet and home line, I doubt many will go for this)

Cost over the season: $159

What you get: All football access to your TV, Internet and Handphone. All matches, plus one 24hr football channel, repeats (they normally cost $3 per repeat) and the whole shenanigans.

Plan 2: Annual Ticket

Cost over the season: $156

What you get: All football access to TV and Internet. Makes no sense if you consider Plan 1 with 2 months free.

Plan 3: Single Match Ticket (Also known as Pay Per View)

Cost for whole season: $6 for group and QF matches.
$9 for SF matches
$12 for Final.
So I did the maths. Say you follow your team from Group to Final, that will cost you (6 x $6 + 2 x $6 + 2 x $9 + 1 x $12 = $78) This works out to $6 per month. But this only allows you to view your team's matches or if your team gets knocked out early, the glam games live only. So give and take your team goes all the way, but you want to watch some other big matches too. Let's put it as $120 for whole season.

What you get: Watch what you want only when you want it. But you will have to pay for the repeats!

Plan 4: Team Pass

Cost for whole season: You pay a flat fee of $20 for the whole year. And then get 10% off all Plan 3 prices. In other words, if you follow your team to the final you pay $70 instead of $78. But don't forget you will need to pay additional $20.

What you get: Full access to your team only. 10% off repeats also.

Additional Charges:

Minimum Charge per month of having a mioTV set: $16.05 (to rent the box)
Installation: $53.50 flat fee
If you want digital video recording: $10.70 per month
Second box rental: $5.35

So it's quite pointless to pay so much to have only the football package, so you're gonna end up getting the Supersaver English package ( http://mio.singtel.com/miotv/price-plan_new-supersaver-pack.asp ) which gives you about 20 channels for $19.90 per month.

So who should take what? Well for starters you have to decide if you want to watch the games at all. You can stream online from sites like Asiaplate TV and www.myp2p.eu to watch but nothing's guaranteed. The quality and commentary might be bad.

For the person who loves football and wants to watch as much as possible (probably Prak, myself, Sat), I think Plan 1 will suit us best. Cost wise it's the most competitive and we like to watch all the different matches so no point we take the other plans. This plan also applies to people like Riz and Puvan because your family has fans of other Champions League teams so Plan 1 allows you to watch as much as possible.

For those who barely have time to watch (Roobz, SK, Vana, PP) I suggest get Plan 3. You save the most if you do that.

For those who can fly to and fro overseas as and when they want plus they live in landed property (Harry, Chan, Anan), get Plan 1.

For the rest of you, perhaps you can consider online streaming.

Don't forget the installation costs and what not by the way. Let's hope Starhub slashes prices of its existing sports group from $25 per month currently. I doubt that will happen though. Sigh.. Everyone it's time to bend over and get your medicine.. Open wide.. And I'm not talking about your mouth..
